    Arlington Outdoor Education Association, Inc.
    The Outdoor Lab, as it's known to Arlington schoolchildren, is a volunteer-run, non-profit enterprise dedicated to providing all of Arlington's schoolchildren with outdoor learning experiences. Arguably the most popular field trip destination in the county, AOEA also runs summer camp sessions. For more information, write to the Arlington Outdoor Education Assoc., Inc. at P.O.     Arlington ReLeaf
    Arlington ReLeaf is a volunteer group which promotes understanding and appreciation of the urban forest and backyard habitat. They also rescue trees and organize tree planting projects. To contact Arlington ReLeaf call Rebecca Mead at (703) 527-8706.

    Audubon Naturalist Society
    To learn about regional natural history or get involved in stream stewardship and land use issues, call the Audubon Naturalist Society, (301) 652-9188.

    Audubon Society of Northern Virginia

    Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute
    The helmet advocacy program of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association.

    Bikes for the World
    Collects bicycles and delivers them to programs assisting the poor in developing countries or in the Washington DC metropolitan area.

    Center for New American Dream
    The Center for a New American Dream helps Americans consume responsibly to protect the environment, enhance quality of life, and promote social justice.

    The Chesapeake Bay Foundation

    Clean Water Partners
    The Northern Virginia Clean Water Partners include local governments, water and sewer authorities, and the Northern Virginia Regional Commission working collaboratively to reduce the amount of pollution reaching our waterways by broadcasting messages on proper disposal of pet waste and motor oil and proper lawn care practices to over a million residents of Northern Virginia.

    DCNature.com
    An informal group of wildlife biologists, amateur photographers, artists and educators who love the outdoors and want to engage with other like-minded people and share their photography creations.

    Environment and Energy Conservation Commission
    The Environment and Energy Conservation Commission (E2C2) is a County Board appointed advisory group that is responsible for reviewing and monitoring activities that affect the quality of the environment in Arlington. The public is welcome to attend E2C2 meetings. The Commission meets once a month and time is provided at the beginning of each meeting for public comments, questions and brief presentation.     Four Mile Run Restoration Project
    The Northern Virginia Regional Commission coordinates this project for environmental restoration of the channelized portion of Four Mile Run.

    Four Mile Run: Reviving an Urban Stream

    Friends of Four Mile Run
    The Friends of Four Mile Run is dedicated to the stewardship of Arlington's most important stream. This site, created by local activists dedicated to preserving Four Mile Run, is full of history and the latest news, as well as ways that you can contribute to the cause.

    Friends of Accotink Creek
    Accotink Creek runs through one of the finest wildlife corridors in Fairfax County. Friends of Accotink Creek is a volunteer organization committed to protecting, promoting and restoring the water quality, natural habitat, and ecological well-being of the Accotink Creek watershed.

    Green Home Choice Program
    Arlington County has developed the Green Home Choice program as an incentive for homebuilders to build green. The program provides a listing of building techniques and components that result in a more efficient and healthy home.

    The Green Miles
    The Green Miles is a blogger, environmental activist, and communications professional based in Arlington.

    Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia
    Working together with the staff of Virginia Cooperative Extension, Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia provide gardening-related community service. After extensive training, new Master Gardeners may choose from many different projects to complete 50 hours of service.     National Wildlife Federation, Backyard Habitat Program

    Northern Virginia Conservation Trust
    A nonprofit land trust dedicated to preserving Northern Virginia's open space.

    Pimmit Run Trail
    Northern Virginia's Gateway to the American Discovery Trail.

    Potomac Conservancy
    The Potomac Conservancy has been protecting the health, beauty, and enjoyment of the Potomac River and its tributaries since 1993. They provide conservation solutions and hands-on restoration opportunities throughout the watershed, including the Potomac Gorge from Great Falls to Key Bridge, which is considered America's premier urban wilderness.

    Potomac Overlook Regional Park and Nature Center
    Potomac Overlook combines beautiful parkland with a staffed nature center and offers educational programs, nature hikes, musical events, and other activities throughout the year. A wonderful local resource, Potomac Overlook is located at 2845 N. Marcey Road, Arlington. For more information, call (703) 528-5406.

    Sierra Club

    Student Conservation Association
    The Student Conservation Association is America's largest and oldest provider of national and community conservation service opportunities, outdoor education and career training for youth. The SCA provides many internship opportunities that may be of interest to Arlington High School students.

    The Tuckahoe Discovery Schoolyard
    The Tuckahoe Discovery Schoolyard Project is a shared vision of the principal, teachers and parents at Tuckahoe to expand the school learning environment to the natural world. The mission is to create an exemplary, educational schoolyard.

    Virginia Native Plant Society
    The purpose of the Virginia Native Plant Society is to further appreciation and conservation of Virginia's native plants and habitats. Its programs emphasize public education, protection of endangered species, habitat preservation and encouragement of appropriate landscape use of native plants.     Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA)
    WABA envisions bikeways everywhere, bike lanes on all roads, bike access across all bridges, bike accommodations on all transit, and bike parking at every destination.

    Wildlife Rescue League
    An all volunteer organization dedicated to protecting native Virginia wildlife through rehabilitation and education. Operates a wildlife hotline for advice and referrals 365 days a year, (703) 440-0800.

    Founded by the organizers of the first Earth Day in 1970, Earth Day Network promotes environmental citizenship and year round progressive action worldwide.

    Environmental Alliance for Senior Involvement
    A national nonprofit coalition of environmental, aging, and volunteer organizations established in 1991 to increase opportunities for older adults to play an active, visible role in protecting and improving the environment in their communities.

    Evergreen Foundation
    A Canadian nonprofit that explores the relationship between nature, culture, and community in urban spaces.

    League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Education Fund
    Information for growing your environmental grassroots, building organizing skills, and communicating with other environmentalists on the state and local level.

    Natural Resources Council of America
    Founded in 1946 as an association for the leaders of nonprofit organizations dedicated to the conservation and sustainable management of the Earth's natural resources, NRCA's membership now includes 85 organizations. The Council publishes a comprehensive calendar of conservation events across the country.

    OurEarth.org
    The purpose of OurEarth.org is to raise awareness, educate the public, and ultimately make it easier for everyone to be environmentally responsible. They have created a website that enables individuals, organizations, and communities from across the country to share environmental information and ideas.

    Step It Up 2007
    On April 14, 2007, at more than 1400 iconic places in all 50 states, Americans called on our leaders to act immediately to stop global warming with a common call to action: "Step It Up Congress: Cut Carbon 80% by 2050."
