Wednesday, February 24, 3:30 p.m., Campbell Elementary, 737 South Carlin Springs Road, Arlington. Please join the Arlington Children And Nature Network (CANN) for a kickoff event to launch our campaign to gather 1,000 supporters. Do you support connecting children to nature? Join the CANN Supporter list! CANN is an alliance of Arlington agencies, organizations, businesses, and individuals dedicated to connecting Arlington children to nature. Refreshments will be served. Children of all ages are welcome and nature activities and crafts will be available. Please RSVP. 3rd Annual Green Schools Open House. Sunday, February 28, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Potomac Overlook Regional Park, 2845 N. Marcey Road, Arlington. This open house is designed for teachers, parents and administrators to share resources and connect with others interested in greening schools, environmental education and outdoor learning. Green Living Expo Planning Meeting. Monday, March 1, 7:30 p.m., 2500 Clarendon Blvd, Arlington. We're looking for new volunteers to help plan and orchestrate our Green Living Expo in March. We particularly need help with publicity, organizing children’s programs, soliciting green living and food vendors, and planning a reception for elected officials. If you are interested in attending, you must RSVP to Elenor by email or by calling 703-228-6427. ACE 32nd Annual Meeting. Tuesday, March 9, 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. NRECA, 4301 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. This event will feature a keynote presentation by Andrew Wingfield, Associate Professor at the New Century College of George Mason University, "Green Living: From Personal Choice to Civic Action." The program will also feature elections for the 2010-2011 ACE board of directors, an overview of ACE programming for the upcoming year, and light refreshments courtesy of Whole Foods Market. Green Living Expo! Saturday, March 20, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Conference Center, 4301 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, near Ballston Metro. Looking for practical ways to green your lifestyle? Join us for Arlington's first Green Living Expo! The expo will feature businesses and organizations with products and services focusing on energy conservation, solid waste reduction, eco-friendly transportation, green home remodeling, sustainable landscaping, and healthy homes. The event will also include seminars, a raffle, and children’s activities. Organized in partnership with the Arlington County Fresh AIRE and Community Outreach Programs. In exchange for a free rain barrel, volunteers commit to helping out at a couple rain barrel workshops this spring and summer. Applications will be accepted until February 16. For more information please visit the Rain Barrel website or contact Aileen Winquist by email or at 703-228-3610. Workshop: The Art of Alien Weeds, "The Invasive Species Harvest". Sunday, February 21, 2:00 p.m. - 5:00pm, Long Branch Nature Center, 625 S. Carlin Springs Road, Arlington. Join Washington Post artist Patterson Clark for an introduction to using invasive plants as an abundant source for art materials. The workshop will include a weed walk, which will identify various plant tissues that can be isolated and made into paper, inks, pens, brushes, printing blocks and cordage. The class will harvest bamboo culms and learn how to make a simple reed pen for dipping in ink. An indoor presentation will focus on several processes used to extract a bounty from exotic weeds. Energy Efficiency, A Critical Path to a Clean Energy Future and Talking about Climate Change, How to Communicate the Message. The Northern Virginia Climate Action Network (NoVaCAN) is a coalition of nine organizations representing over 25,000 people in Northern Virginia formed to address climate change policy at the federal, state and local levels. NoVaCAN's mission is to educate and empower Northern Virginians to advocate for policies to curtail climate change. Register online. Invasive Plant Removal Events.
