Current Programs and Services
- Service Projects – ACE organizes regular outdoor service projects in Arlington including stream and river cleanups, highway cleanups, invasive plant removals, and storm drain marking events. We can also help you with a project in your neighborhood or customize a project for your group or club on a week day or weekend. - Service Project Leaders – a training program for volunteer leaders of environmental service projects to improve Arlington’s outdoor spaces, including stream cleanups, highway cleanups and storm drain marking projects. - Water Stewardship Program – this neighborhood-based program creates teams that work on simple household actions to improve the health of our local streams, the Potomac River, and the Chesapeake Bay. Training for neighborhood team leaders is offered three times a year, usually in January, May, and October. Team leaders must live in the Northern Virginia jurisdictions of Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, and Falls Church. - Arlington Community Wildlife Habitat Project - ACE works to interest, educate and assist citizens, schools, businesses and community organizations in Arlington County in the creation of wildlife habitats that provide food, water, shelter and places to raise young. Please contact the ACE office about attending a meeting of the volunteer group leading this effort: office@arlingtonenvironment.org or 703-228-6427.
- Watershed-friendly Garden Tour - This annual tour features local homes and public buildings with a variety of watershed-friendly elements, including cisterns, rain barrels, rain gardens, backyard wildlife habitat, and native plants. Held each June since 2003, the tour is sponsored by ACE, Arlington County, Fairfax County, the City of Alexandria, and the City of Falls Church. Contact ACE in early May for the tour booklet listing locations and addresses. A $5 donation is suggested for tour participants.
- Watershed-friendly Garden and Habitat Directory - This online networking tool serves those interested in using environmentally-friendly landscaping techniques in their yards. See examples of various garden features and learn from neighbors who have already installed these features.
- School Programs - ACE offers a number of relevant presentations on environmental topics. All presentations are hands-on and connected to SOLs.
